President Barack Obama will be in the Bay Area on Thursday as part of a lucrative West Coast fundraising sweep.
The president is scheduled to hold a small reception with fewer than two dozen guests at the Mark Hopkins International Hotel atop Nob Hill in San Francisco. Then he’ll be at a fundraising dinner — prepared by Michael Tusk, chef and owner of San Francisco restaurants Quince and Cotogna — for about 70 guests at the Pacific Heights home of novelist Robert Mailer Anderson and his wife, Nicola Miner. A ticket to either of these events costs $35,800.
Later, the president is scheduled to address a much-larger crowd at the Masonic Center. The 8 p.m. event is sold out. Ticket prices range from $100 to
$7,500, with top donors getting their photos taken with the president. Singer-songwriter Chris Cornell, of Soundgarden and Audioslave fame, is set to perform.
The president will head to the Bay Area from Southern California, where he’s scheduled to have a $2,500-a-head fundraising luncheon Thursday at a supporter’s Corona Del Mar home. On Wednesday, he had a large fundraising reception — starting at $250 a head and featuring a musical performance by Foo Fighters — followed by a more-exclusive, $35,800-a-head dinner, both at a supporter’s Los Angeles home.
The first $5,000 of a contribution will go to the president’s re-election campaign, with half earmarked for the primary election and half for the general. The rest — up to
$30,800 — will go to the Democratic National Committee, although the donor can designate that money for a specific recipient.
Obama is scheduled to stay overnight in San Francisco before leaving Friday for more fundraisers in Washington state.
